1:12 pm - Israel, Tesco and M&S
Apparently Tesco buys goods from Occupied Palestine and labels them "Made in Israel".

If they weren't already on my blacklist they'd be going on there. They are already there because some of their profits go to a certain woman, who as a Tory councillor, did a dodgy deal with a developer on some graveyards. She now lives in Israel and the word on the grapevine is that she plows a lot of that money into supporting the "settlers" in Occupied Palestine.

Kev read recently that M&S has a policy of deliberately sourcing goods from Israel. Fair enough, that's their choice.

Now I've made my choice: I will no longer source goods from M&S!

12:25 pm - Doing *something*, no matter how small.
I've just signed this petition:
http://www.ceasefirecampaign.org/mo/en.html
calling for a ceasefire in the Israel/Lebanon conflict.

I know that online petitions don't carry much weight but I had to do *something*.

Bush justifies Israel's actions by saying that it is a war on terrorists. Dangerous logic. Is he saying then that we should have reduced Dublin to rubble a couple of decades ago? NO, I didn't think so.

We've taken some holiday....

We were intending to clear out the junk room...
decorate the living room....
empty the garage...
go to the seaside...

but it's too darn hot!

4:22 pm - Educating people on cat diet
We went to a pet supermarket today hoping to find Bozita at a slightly cheaper price than we can get it locally. We don't mind spending the money on Romey but if we could get it cheaper it would be a bonus.

They didn't have Bozita so we bought some Nature's Menu: not as good but still better than all the other grain and vegetable riddled stuff on offer. As we waited in the queue I spotted a couple buying a dry food that really annoys me because the name is designed to fool us into thinking that it must be healthy. It *boasts* about containing rice and vegetables: cats don't have the digestive enzymes to utilise cereals efficiently so what is the point of adding them to cat food?

Once we reached the checkout the assistant trotted out her "Did you find everything that you were looking for?" line. Well I was so cross to see that yet another poor cat was going to be damaged by well meaning but misguided humans that I didn't smile sweetly and reply "Oh yes" like everyone else: I said "No, I was hoping to find some Bozita here." At that point the assistant's face changed; she adopted a holier-than-thou attitude and said "No, we don't stock that", in a voice which just dripped with "Only an idiot would pay out money for that."

I was now doubly annoyed, so I said as loudly as I could "Why not? It's a damn sight better for cats than that rubbish over there." pointing to the huge bags of dry food "that stuff is killing cats."

Again the holier-than-thou look: "Vets and animal welfare people don't agree." she said.

"Actually, if you read the literature you'll find that many researchers *do* agree. Commercial cat food, and especially dry food, is being blamed for all sorts of diseases like hyperthyroid etc.." But it was no use, she's turned off by then so there was no point at all in mentioning that the studies which are in favour of the specialised dry diets are written by vets working for companies that produce such diets.

At least I tried.

Oh... we found some Bozita in a small pet shop so Romey will be happy.
